Its future is in our Hands

We can look from past to now. The world develops rapidly. Also the environment is worse and worse. Now, people have learned from the past, they are getting smarter. They are taking many actions to help the earth because they realize the environment also is important. However, they are not only enjoying their present life, they also think about their next generation. They try their best to do many small things to save the energy and to clean the environment. They called that’s eco-living.

For our better living, people are finding more and more new methods to improve our environment. Bio-fuel is one of the examples. It's a green fuel which produces less carbon dioxide because it's made of alcohol and animal or vegetable fats. It will in place of gasoline later on. Scientists found out that the biofuel can end up increasing global greenhouse gases emission. But the based problem is we should grow enough plants to produce biofuel. If not, the CO2 emission still increases due to the decline of plants.

For developing the economy, people become busier and work overtime more often. A year ago, the Beehive State established a four-day workweek for most employees. They usually work through Monday to Thursday, and off Friday. They also called that TGIT (thank God it’s Thursday). So we can know most of employees love this new system. Actually the employees worked the same hours a week. They just made up 10 hours in 4 days. After few months, the officers found out this new schedule helped to reduce the energy use and save gasoline cost due to the less commuting.

Also we know even though paper can be recycled, it still requires energy to produce and transport it. Reusable e-paper is a new technology to solve this problem. It's an electronic which is as thin as paper, it can be used for magazine advertisements and computer games, and could eventually replace paper, and can transmit moving and still images. It also can connect the internet. That can help to reduce the consumption of papers.

Human always can find their way to survive. I believe if all of us help each other. We can brave to face each single problem.

Part 2: Present

Green @ Work

You can take a few minutes to google search and it'll give many useful tips information about green office. After that I appreciate offices can easily become HUGE resource consumers. People reach a consensus on doing those things below to green their workplace.

Save the energy wisely. Lighting accounts for 44% of the electricity use in offices. Turn off the lights when you leave for a lunch or for a long time. We can change to use eco-efficient lighting, and set the computers to sleep mode between meetings, breaks, and lunch, that can help to save more electricity. Remember to turn off the computers and unplug the printers, photocopiers and other electronics when you leave for the day because they still draining the energy even turned them off. That can help to reduce much energy for using. Not only the electricity, we also needed to conserve the water, too. Close well the water tap after we washed our hands.

Utilize the "Green" office supplies smarter. Americans buy more than 5.1 billion pens every year, and most are the disposable type. We can make a better change by using long-life refillable pen. U.S. businessperson use approximate 10,000 sheets of copy paper a year. So we need to think before you print, can we write and save the documents online? Like sending E-mails. Offices also waste paper a lot, include napkins and toilet papers in bathroom. Using recycle papers and print on both side can help to save the papers. Also can help to decline the speed of deforestation.

Green your commute. In the report, it said businessperson spend about 47 hours per year on rush hour traffic when they go to work. As a result, the cars push out nearly 60 million tons of greenhouse gases into the air per year. So think twice about your transports. Try to give up your car, it wastes time when you on ruch hour traffic, also pollutes the atmosphere. If your workplace isn’t far away from your home, you can choose walking or biking; if not, you can change to public transports, like taking bus, or share the car with your co-workers.

Recycle in lunch room. Whenever possible, bring your own lunch with reusable containers and other kitchen facilities are a good way for reusing. Avoid using too many plastic bags, disposable kitchen facilities, and Styrofoam products. Also we can have a bag to collect the empty cans and water bottles for recycling. It helps the environment and saves money.

Keep indoor plants. Put some green plants around not only make your workplace nicer, but also filter the air to reduce your stress levels. That’s very good for health.

Small things can make a big difference. Whatever you work in an office, shop, or factory … taking care of the environment about your workplace is easier than you think.

*10 Ways to Go Green at Work

Try to look around carefully, and then you will find many little things that can help to make your workplace better. Take care about the electricity is very important because the office consumes a huge amount of electricity. Save energy means save money. Also I know businessperson usually do a lot of paper work. Avoid waste papers by printing paper on both sides, recycling old documents, etc. We should be smarter of purchasing, buy the office supplies or furniture by looking of energy star mark.

The article was posted on March 8, 2007. That’s not so long time from now. Also there are many comments, and all of them are giving the positive comments. So I can assume that it’s useful. The author given many information and good tips.

*How to Go Green: At Work

Expect the things that we can do inside the office; we also can do many things out of the office. For reducing the air pollution, we should try to not driving alone too much; it’s waste time on rush hours and waste money. If your workplace isn’t far away from your home, you can choose walking or biking; if not, you can change to public transports, like taking bus, or share the car with your co-workers. I think bring your own lunch is better than buying from outside. It’s good for health, either environment.

Part 1: Past

Former Office

business6.jpg
(cc)an Office Building, Glasgow Business District
The area of business is increasing when the economy is rising. In the previous days, businesses have affected our environment of many decades. We can’t ignore one significant truth that business is closely related to the environment.

People constructed the business offices from many woods, and they didn’t use renewable resources. Also the business men were doing many paper works, thereby requiring many papers. Do you know approximately 4000 A4 papers equal one adult tree? Maybe it would not use 4000 papers in an office in one day, but I believe there is not only one office in the world. As a result, offices consume vast amounts of paper. In a research report, it said that we found about 20% of waste paper at the landfills. The rapid decline of the amount of trees is an inevitable consequence.

business5.jpg

The accumulation of Carbon Dioxide is the main source of the climate change. The air conditions of offices increase the greenhouse gas. They come from human's activates, like burning of gas. Business people usually have their own cars. Rush-hour traffic jams on the road are full of people trying to get to work on weekdays. The immediate result is people are wasting time and the CO2 form cars are polluting the air. Offices need a great amount of electricity to sustain the equipment, like computers, prints, photocopiers, lighting, air conditioning, etc.

Ultimately, the natural resources will run out someday, that’s what we are facing!

Summary and Evaluation of Sources

*How Businesses Affect the Environment

When the economy is rising, also the sort of buiness is increasing. Up to now, business have affected the environment a lot that inside or outside the business office. Like the ACs of offices increase the greenhouse gas; Business office need a lot of papers. That means need to cut more and more tree.I am surprised by those specific examples of ways the working world damages the environment in the article. I don't even know only a small business office can affect the enviroment a lot.If we don't take seriously to this problem, it would get worse.

This source according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Also this article comes from For Dummies which is with more than 150 million books in print, covering 1,300+ topics, For Dummies is the most widely recognized and highly regarded reference series in the world. Since 1991, For Dummies has helped millions make everything easier. So it is very trustworthy.

* Carbon Dioxide/ Human-Related Sourse and Sink of Carbon Dioxide

The human activities affect the environment a lot, like burning of gas. Business people usually have their own cars. The car needs gas, and that's why the gas price and carbon dioxide are increasing when the business is developing. Also carbon dioxide is a main cause of global warming. Besides that, deforestation is a serious problem, too. People use the wood to make papers and construct the buildings.

Those 2 sources were created by the US government (.gov), and the teacher suggests us to go. So I think it is very trustworthy. Also it is including a lot of basic facts. Many data show by the charts. Its last updated on Tuesday, September 8th, 2009.
